July 24, 2026, Marshall Islands__ <\/strong>To fight illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, the United States has delivered its 2026 contribution of $60 million to the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. Embassy Majuro released a statement which said<\/a>, \u201cWith this payment, the United States has made $180 million in contributions in the past year, securing access for U.S.-flagged fishing vessels while supporting economic development across the Pacific Islands.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It continues, \u201cThis payment follows last month\u2019s Annual Treaty Consultation, where the United States reinforced its commitment to sustainable fisheries, shared prosperity, and maritime security across the region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is part of the Economic Assistance Agreement associated with the South Pacific Tuna Treaty<\/a> originally established in 1988 between the United States and 16 Pacific Islands countries nearly 40 years ago for best practices of management and cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
