June 26, 2026, Federated States of Micronesia__Since coming into office last month on May 27, 2026, Secretary of the FSM Department of Foreign Affairs, Ricky F. Cantero has increased Micronesia’s strong multilateral posture.
According to a statement from the Office of the President, Federated States of Micronesia, Secretary Cantero has, “undertaken a series of introductory engagements with members of the diplomatic corps and development partners accredited to the Federated States of Micronesia.”
This included meetings with the United Nations Multi Country Office (UN MCO) Regional Coordinator Mamadou Kane, U.S. Ambassador Jennifer Johnson, China Ambassador Wu Wei, Japan Ambassador Nobuo Kagomiya, and Australia Ambassador Jenny Grant.
The statement added, “These engagements reflect the FSM Government’s commitment to maintaining strong relationships with its international partners and advancing cooperation in support of national priorities. The discussions provided an opportunity to strengthen partnerships, discuss shared priorities, and identify new ways to work together in support of the people of the Federated States of Micronesia.”
The balance of summer will see more opportunities for Micronesia’s multilateralism with the coming Micronesia Islands Forum in Pohnpei July 15-17 and the Pacific Islands Forum in Palau August 30-September. These meetings will further fortify Micronesia’s global voice as it prepares for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 31) in Antalya, Türkiye, from November 9 to 20, 2026.
