July 1, 2026, Federated States of Micronesia__The U.S. National Weather Service station Tiyan, Guam this morning issued a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert for Eastern Micronesia and the Marianas Islands

They stated, “The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) has upgraded Invest 95W to a “high” for development with a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert, meaning it is expected to develop into a significant tropical cyclone (a Tropical Depression) within 24 hours. Invest 95W remains very broad, spanning much of the northern half of the MarshallIslands and Kosrae State, with the circulation extending westward to beyond Pohnpei and eastward to around Majuro. The circulation center is currently located near Ujae Atoll at 9.0N 164.6E. Maximum sustained winds are estimated at 20 to 25 mph.”
They noted for Majuro, Marshall Islands, and three Federated States of Micronesia states of Kosrae, Pohnpei and Chuuk, “A Special Weather Statement remains in effect for eastern Micronesia, detailing potential impacts associated with 95W as it moves north of the FSM. Impacts across Majuro and the RMI will subside as 95W pulls away to the west. Folks across the FSM: keep alert to weather forecasts and conditions. Although this system will pass to the north, surging west winds, showers, thunderstorms and the potential for locally heavy rainfall should be expected in the coming days.”

For the Marianas (Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands), they note,“Numerical forecast models continue to indicate a passage of a tropical cyclone (TC) somewhere through the Marianas Sunday and Monday (July 5-6). The likely passage region spans from just south of Guam northward through Pagan Island. Therefore, everyone in the Marianas should watch this system closely and plan for some degree of impacts Sunday and Monday. It’s not yet clear where exactly 95W will pass through the region, or at what intensity, but we have 4+ days, and a lot of distance for things to shift, develop and evolve.”
