July 16, 2026__ The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) issued a statement that they are closely monitoring, “a broad tropical disturbance, Invest 90W” that is “slowly organizing southwest of Pohnpei/southeast of Chuuk near Nukuoro. This disturbance will remain quasi-stationary for the next 24 to 48 hoursas it slowly develops. Early this weekend, 90W may lift northward somewhere between Chuuk and Pohnpei.”
Landon Aydlett, NWS Guam Warning Coordination Meteorologist told the Micronesia Sun, “Those with travel plans should check with the airline prior to flight status.”
At present, the disturbance is creating widespread showers, isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds across Chuuk and eastern Yap States with winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, according to the statement.
Damage from Typhoon Sinlaku is still impacting Chuuk’s recovery, with the Marianas still suffering from the brutal winds of Super Typhoon Bavi.
