US Supports World Day Against Trafficking in Persons in FSM with International Organization of Migration

July 30, 2026, Federated States of Micronesia__ The US Embassy Kolonia in the Federated States of Micronesia supported World Day Against Trafficking in Persons with the International Organization of Migration (IOM), Micronesia, and the local FSM Anti-human Trafficking Program.

This year’s theme of “Trapped behind a scam” tackles human trafficking online as transnational organized crime groups are increasing digital methods to swindle and enslave people. Teaching online safety to the community and students was part of the key lessons in Kolonia today.

Ewa Naqvi, IOM North Pacific Chief of Mission, said, “As the Pacific becomes more mobile and digitally connected, FSM citizens seeking opportunities abroad should be aware of, and protect themselves against, recruiters that can reach them directly through social media and other online platforms.”

An IOM statement championed the, “FSM AHTD who led today’s events and the students who took part,” warning, “Let us remember to be mindful of our online interactions, protect and support others whom we suspect may be involved in such activities, and stay informed about the ever-evolving trafficking schemes so we can remain vigilant and stay safe.”
