October 17, 2026, Federated States of Micronesia___The U.S. National Weather Service is warning that Typhoon Champi now a category 4-level threat with 130 mph winds, headed for to hit Guam sometime tomorrow morning.
Emergency evacuation shelters are open with public warnings to get to them as soon as possible.
They state, “As currently forecast, this would put the northern eye wall of Champi over southern Guam. Champi could still make a direct passage over Guam with a slight shift to the north.”

Tis makes it the strongest typhoon to strike Guam since Typhoon Mawar in May 2023.
“All preparedness plans must be complete, with residents in safe shelter by sunset today, as tropical storm force conditions move in later this evening. If you are not in a reinforced concrete structure with secure windows and doors, seek safe shelter immediately. Time is running out for actions to protect life and property.”

Still painfully recovering from typhoons from earlier this year, CNMI also needs to brace for heavy winds and rains. They warn, “Typhoon conditions will keep south of Tinian and Saipan, and likely keep just south of Rota. Any northward shift would bring stronger winds to Rota.”
“Do not dismiss the hazards associated with Champi, despite its distance away from the CNMI.”
