June 9, 2026, Federated State of Micronesia__ Australia’s Ambassador to the FSM Jenny Grant recently officiated the launch of the UNICEF RISE-FSM program.
According to a statement from the Pohnpei State Public Information, Office of the Governor, “The RISE-FSM project, generously funded by the Australian Government, focuses on building resilient infrastructure and strengthening essential services to support the growth, health, and well-being of children and communities across the state.”
The RISE-FSM: Resilient and Inclusive School Environments through Climate-Resilient Water, Sanitation and Hygiene WASH) is a Menstrual Hygiene Management project for schools in Pohnpe, and “an important step towards improving health, safety, and learning outcomes for students across the state and the FSM,” according to a statement from Australian Embassy, Federated States of Micronesia.
Australian Ambassador Grant, together with Second Secretary Josh Critchley-Evans, attended the launch, with her saying, “Australia is proud to partner with UNICEF and the Government of Pohnpei on this important initiative. Investing in WASH in schools means investing in the health, dignity, and future of children.”
Pohnpei Governor Stevenson A. Joseph and UNICEF Chief of Field Office Cromwell Bacarezza applauded the support, as did other officials and community stakeholders present.
The UNICEF RISE-FSM activity aims to fortify “sustainable development and regional security,” with Ambassador Grant highlighting, “that investments in community resilience form the bedrock of a secure and prosperous future for the region.” She also said that this was vital partnership between Australia, UNICEF, and the Pohnpei State Government.
