June 18, 2026, Federated States of Micronesia__As part of the Compact of Free Association (COFA), seventeen young citizens of the Federated States of Micronesia have enlisted in the U.S. Army.
This four decades standing agreement has seen innumerable FSM citizens stand shoulder to shoulder in the U.S. Armed Services with American soldiers to fight for freedom.
In attendance for this latest swearing in were FSM President Simina and U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Mut-Tracy, according to a statement from U.S. Embassy Kolonia.
President Simina remarked, “You have made a choice to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces, a choice made possible through the special and unique relationship that we have with the United States — a relationship that provide opportunities for you and, others who will come after you, the chance to contribute to the global efforts to preserve peace, security, and stability.”
His office also said,“Through the Compact of Free Association, FSM citizens are eligible to serve in the United States Armed Forces, continuing a longstanding tradition of military service between the two nations.”
Chargé d’Affaires Vincent Mut-Tracy commented, “The relationship between Micronesia and the United States is one built on trust, partnership, and shared sacrifice. Under the Compact of Free Association, your nation and ours have stood side by side. We are especially proud to recognize that the FSM serves in the U.S. military at higher rates than any state in the United States.”
The recruits will soon leave for basic training, as ongoing recruitment continues in the Freely Associated States of Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, and Marshall Islands, and a new future chapter of the Free and Open Pacific is chartered.
