June 22, 2026, Marshall Islands__President Heine of the Marshall Islands delivered a powerful opening keynote remarks for the Berline Climate Mobility Forum last week, stirrng the audience on issues of, “Rights-Based Climate Mobility and the Protection of Sovereign Rights.”

According to her office, “She noted that rising sea levels and other climate-related threats are already affecting livelihoods, cultural heritage, human security, and the enduring connection between peoples and their ancestral lands.”
She further, “ emphasized that climate change must be addressed not only as an environmental challenge, but also as an issue of human rights, dignity, and shared international responsibility. She underscored the importance of ensuring that climate mobility policies are informed by the experiences and priorities of affected communities and are designed to protect cultural identity, maintain social ties, and uphold the right of people to shape their own future.”


Also on the sidelines, President Heine met with Mr. Ibrahima Diong, Executive Director of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD), discussing “growing impacts of climate change on vulnerable nations and communities,” and also with Mr. Kamal Amakrane, Managing Director of the Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM) to talk about to “cooperation on climate mobility, climate resilience, and the unique challenges facing atoll nations.”
