Chuuk welcomes Guardian Pacific Angel Medical Exercise

May 6, 2026, Federated States of Micronesia__Chuuk welcomed 50 medical personnel from the United States Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) who are delivering, “services in ophthalmology, dentistry, physical therapy, and public health through direct patient care,” according to a statement from the Office of the President, Federated States of Micronesia.

It adds, “The Pacific Angel Medical Exercise brings together regional and international partners to deliver humanitarian assistance, strengthen healthcare capacity, and reinforce cooperation across the Pacific.”

It was officiated. y President Simina on Weno Island in Chuuk Lagoon with Colonel Elizabeth G. Gibby, Medical Group Commander at Andersen Air Force Base;,Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas Grader, U.S. Embassy Defense Attaché, Lieutenant Colonel Chuck Gomes, Pacific Angel Mission Commander, and local officials.

President Simina said, “Today marks not just the launch of a humanitarian mission, but the enduring strength of partnerships anchored in our shared commitment to the well-being of our people.”

He added the urgency of the mission in the wake of ongoing recovery from Typhoon Sinlaku. Going to press, the U.S. Embassy Kolonia gaving a weather warning of a tropical depression forming. It says, the “The storm is near Weno and heading west toward Yap. Islands in central/western Chuuk and all of Yap are areas of concern for the next 3-5 days and may have dangerously heavy rain, winds, and waves.”

The Pacific Angels have arrived just in time.
