June 1, 2026, Federated States of Micronesia___ A Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) engineer has arrived in Weno, Chuuk to, “support recovery planning” of Typhoon Sinlaku with “Chuuk DCO, FSM DECEM, and partners from the U.S. State Department,” according to IOM—Micronesia.

Striking over April 14 and 15, 2026 at category 4, Typhoon Sinlaku did significant damage to Chuuk in Micronesia, Guam and Tinian in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands with 17 total deaths, with 9 in Chuuk.
According to the statement, “Through ongoing coordination and discussions, the team is helping identify practical solutions to support recovery efforts across impacted areas.”

Moreover, “the team visited public facilities affected by the storm and toured IOM’s warehouse in Weno, where relief supplies and recovery materials supported by the U.S. Government are being stockpiled for response efforts. Community visits are planned in the coming days as assessments and recovery support continue. In the meantime, our warehouse teams are preparing shelter and non-food item #NFI kits for distribution.”
Continued work is ongoing for planning and full community recovery.
