June 22, 2026, Federated States of Micronesia__Australia is helping re-charge Chuuk, with a partnership with the Chuuk Public Utilities Corporation (CPUC). This recently announced partnership will address, “key issues relating to public utilities, energy security, infrastructure development, and service delivery in Chuuk, in light of the recent destructive damage to critical infrastructure following Typhoon Sinlaku,” according to a statement from the Australian Embassy, Federated States of Micronesia.
FSM Australia Ambassador Grant commented, “Australia is proud to support Chuuk’s utilities and energy sectors through our solar electrification projects, strengthening energy security while building resilience and fostering innovation.”
After meeting with Chief Executive Officer of the CPUC, Mr. Kembo Mida, the Australia and FSM parties, “emphasised the importance of strengthening collaboration to support sustainable energy solutions and improve access to reliable essential services for communities.” The dialogue also demonstrates, “a shared commitment to fostering partnerships that contribute to resilience, innovation, and long-term growth in the utilities and energy sectors.”

Also committing to social order, Ambassador Grant and her delegation met with Chuuk State Acting Attorney General, Ms. Bulouseru Esther Kuridani and the Director of Chuuk Public Safety, Mr Mack Mailos, with discussions centering on “future opportunities for partnership in legal systems and public safety,” with training Chuuk State Police. Ambassador Grant further stated, “Investing in people is key to advancing justice and community safety and we are excited that the Australian Federal Police will be in Chuuk supporting law enforcement capability.”
The U.S. National Weather Service is forecasting more harsh El Niño conditions for this year, with rising threats to public safety.
